Compt: How to Connect Compt to Your AI Assistant with the MCP Connector – Admins
Compt Admins can connect Compt to the AI assistant they already use, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or Microsoft Copilot, with the Compt MCP connector. To set it up, add a custom connector in your assistant, enter the URL https://app.compt.io/mcp, and authorize your assistant with your Compt Admin account.
Once connected, you can ask questions about your stipend program in plain terms. The assistant pulls the Compt data it needs, and can combine it with data from other tools you've connected, such as your HRIS or payroll system. The connector is read-only and sees only what your Compt account can see.
OVERVIEW
Compt is a platform for managing employee stipends and lifestyle benefits. A stipend is a set amount of money your company gives Employees to spend on things like wellness or learning.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to business software. Think of it as a universal adapter: once a system offers an MCP connector, any compatible assistant can plug into it.
The Compt MCP connector currently gives your assistant three tools. Each one mirrors a report you already run in Compt, so the numbers match what you see in the platform.
- Employee roster (matches the Employee Roster report): department, location, status, hire date, last login, and whether each person has activated their account.
- Stipend expense details (matches the Stipend Expense Details report): every submitted stipend expense, including vendor, category, amount, status, approval timing, and tax treatment.
- Stipend utilization (matches the Stipend Utilization report): funded, spent, and unused balance per Employee, per stipend.
Please note: Expense and utilization data cover stipends and lifestyle benefits only. Business expenses aren't included today. The connector is available to all Compt customers. There's nothing to turn on in Compt.
WHEN TO USE
Use the Compt MCP connector when you want answers about your stipend program without exporting reports. It's most useful for questions that span Compt and your other HR systems.
Questions to ask with Compt data alone
- "How many people hired in the last 90 days have never logged in?"
- "Which locations have the lowest activation rate?"
- "List employees who haven't logged in for six months, grouped by department."
- "Which stipend has the lowest utilization, by department?"
- "How much unused balance is left in each stipend program right now?"
- "Who has used less than 25% of their learning stipend this year?"
- "What are our top 20 stipend vendors by spend this year?"
- "Break down wellness stipend spend by vendor for last quarter."
- "What was our total taxable versus non-taxable stipend spend this quarter?"
- "Chart monthly stipend spend this year, by stipend."
Questions to ask with Compt and your other systems
If you've also connected your HRIS, payroll, performance management, or engagement survey tool to your assistant, it can pull from all of them in one conversation.
- "Did the people who left this year use their benefits less than the people who stayed?" Combines stipend utilization with HRIS exit data to show whether benefit engagement is an early signal of retention risk.
- "Are teams that use their learning stipend seeing stronger review outcomes?" Combines stipend expense details with performance management data to show whether development spend connects to growth.
- "Which departments scored lowest on wellbeing in our last survey, and how are they using their wellness stipend?" Combines stipend utilization with engagement survey results to show where a benefit isn't landing, or isn't known about.
- "Who's starting next month, and do they all have a Compt invite? Draft a note to their managers." Combines the employee roster with upcoming hires from your HRIS, plus email or Slack, to catch and fix onboarding gaps in one conversation.
- "Does the taxable stipend total in Compt match what ran through payroll this quarter?" Combines stipend expense details (tax treatment) with payroll for a reconciliation that takes minutes instead of a spreadsheet exercise.
- "What do we invest per employee in salary plus benefits, by department?" Combines stipend utilization (funded amounts) with payroll for a total rewards picture for comp planning.
- "Put together a one-page people update for the leadership meeting." Combines all three Compt tools with your HRIS and survey tool, so benefits show up in the strategic conversation, not as a separate report.
Tips for better answers
- Mention Compt by name so the assistant knows which connector to use.
- Give a time frame, such as "this year" or "Q3."
- Ask follow-up questions, such as "Now break that down by location."
- Ask for the output you need, such as a table, chart, or summary for leadership.
BEFORE YOU START
- A Compt Admin login. You'll use it to authorize your assistant during setup.
- An AI assistant that supports custom MCP connectors. Some assistants limit custom connectors to paid plans, or require a workspace owner to add them for your organization. If you can't find the option, check with your IT team.

Connect Compt in ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, or another assistant
The process is similar in any assistant that supports MCP. Menu names vary, so look for settings called Connectors, Apps, Integrations, Tools, or MCP servers.
- Open your assistant's connector settings.
- Choose to add a custom connector or MCP server.
- Enter Compt as the name.
- Enter https://app.compt.io/mcp as the server URL.
- Choose OAuth (sign in) if asked how to authenticate. Compt doesn't use API keys.
- Authorize your AI tool to use Compt.
- Turn on the Compt connector in a chat.
- Ask your first question.
Please note: If your assistant is managed by IT, they may need to approve or add the connector before you can use it.
⚠️ If you're having trouble connecting through ChatGPT, try disabling the "OIDC enabled" checkbox in the advanced OAuth settings.

Disconnect Compt from your AI assistant
Disconnecting removes your assistant's access to Compt. To use it again, follow the connection steps above.
In Claude:
- Click Customize in the left sidebar.
- Click the Connectors tab.
- Click Compt in your connectors list.
- Click Disconnect in the top right.

The same page lets you choose when Claude can use each Compt tool: allow it, require your approval, or block it.
In ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, or another assistant:
- Open your assistant's connector or MCP settings.
- Select Compt.
-
Choose the option to disconnect or remove the connector.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
- Your assistant can pull Compt data whenever you ask a question that needs it.
- The assistant sees only what your Compt Admin account can see.
- The connector is read-only. The assistant can't submit, approve, edit, or reject anything in Compt.
- Compt data goes only to the assistant you connected. How that assistant handles data is governed by your organization's agreement with your AI vendor.
-
Compt doesn't connect to your HRIS, payroll, or other systems. Each one connects to your assistant separately, and the assistant combines the answers. No data moves between Compt and those systems through the MCP.
FAQS
Q: Can the assistant change anything in Compt?
A: No. The connector is read-only.
Q: How accurate are the answers?
A: Compt controls the data it returns. The analysis on top of that data is done by your AI assistant. For any figure you'd like to double check, you can compare against the matching report in Compt.
Q: Can the assistant see another company's data?
A: No. Access comes from the signed-in account. An assistant can't request another company's data, even if prompted to.
Q: How is this different from ComptGPT?
A: ComptGPT brings AI to Compt: it lives inside Compt and answers quick questions about your benefits program. The MCP connector brings Compt to the AI you already use, so you can ask questions that span benefits and the rest of your employee data.
Q: Are business expenses included?
A: Not today. Expense and utilization data cover stipends and lifestyle benefits only.
Q: Can Employees connect?
A: The connector is built for Admins. Everything the assistant returns is limited to what your Compt account can see.
