Compt: How to Connect Slack to Compt – Admins

OVERVIEW

The Slack integration connects your company's Slack workspace to Compt, so Compt activity and notifications can show up in Slack. You connect it from the Slack tile on the Integrations tab in Settings. The tile also has a Getting started guide link.

With Slack connected, you can:

  • Let Employees connect their own Slack accounts to Compt.
  • Add the Compt app to a Slack channel where Team Recognition messages appear.

WHEN TO USE

Use this article when:

  • Your company uses Slack and you want Compt activity and notifications to reach Employees there.
  • You're launching a Team Recognition stipend and want recognition messages to show in a Slack channel.
  • You can't find where to connect Slack in the new Settings page.

BEFORE YOU START

You need:

  • Admin access in Compt, so you can open Settings.
  • Permission to add apps to your company's Slack workspace.
  • The name of the Slack workspace you want to connect.

Optional: If you want recognition messages in a specific Slack channel, create that channel in Slack first, or pick an existing one.

HOW TO

To connect Slack to Compt

  1. Log into Compt.
  2. Click Settings on the left sidebar.
  3. Click the Integrations tab.

  4. On the Slack tile, click Connect Slack. Slack opens and asks you to approve Compt.

  5. Select your company's Slack workspace.

  6. Click Allow.


To show Team Recognition messages in a Slack channel (optional)

  1. Open Slack.
  2. Right-click the channel you want to use for recognition messages.
  3. Click View channel details.
  4. Click the Integrations tab.
  5. Click Add an App.
  6. Select Compt to add it to the channel.

TROUBLESHOOTING

I can't find the Slack integration in Settings

  • Slack is on the Integrations tab in Settings, on the Slack tile. It's no longer a "Slack Integration" section on the main Settings page.
  • The Admin button is now Connect Slack. Older Admin instructions call it Add to Slack.
  • If you don't see Settings on the left sidebar, you may not have Admin access. Ask another Admin at your company.

Slack won't let me click Allow or add the app

  • Your Slack workspace may limit who can add apps. Ask your Slack workspace admin to connect Compt or approve the app.

Employees say they don't see Compt in Slack

Recognition messages aren't showing in the Slack channel

  • In Slack, open the channel's details and check the Integrations tab to make sure the Compt app was added.
  • Check that your Team Recognition stipend is launched.

I connected the wrong Slack workspace

Q: How do I connect Slack to Compt?

A: Click Settings on the left sidebar, click the Integrations tab, and click Connect Slack on the Slack tile. Then select your Slack workspace and click Allow.

Q: Where is the Slack integration in the new Compt admin?

A: On the Integrations tab in Settings, on the Slack tile.

Q: Older Admin instructions say to click "Add to Slack." Is that the same thing?

A: Yes. The Admin button on the Slack tile is now called Connect Slack.

Q: Do Employees have to connect Slack themselves?

Q: Can Team Recognition show up in a Slack channel?

A: Yes. Add the Compt app to the channel in Slack: right-click the channel, click View channel details, click the Integrations tab, click Add an App, and select Compt.
